Fred Gustafson was born in RockfordIllinois April 4, 1941 and married his wife Karen in August of 1963.  They have two grown children:  Andrea of Phoenix, AZ and Aaron of Madison, WI.  Fred was ordained into the ELCA denomination in 1968, and, after spending four years in Upper Michigan in a mission denomination, began studies at the Jung Institute of Zurich.  Since his return to the States, he has been involved full time as a Jungian Analyst and Pastoral Counselor.  

He is the author of The Black Madonna, An Ancient Image For Our Present Time, Daimon Verlag, Einsiedeln, Switzerland, 2009; Lifting The Veil, co-authored with Jungian Analyst, Jane Kamerling,  Fisher King Press, 2012; Editor of and contributor to Pierre Teilhard de Chardin & Carl Gustav Jung: Side By Side, Fisher King Press, 2015; Dancing Between Two Worlds: Jung and the Native American Soul, (1997) Paulist Press;  Editor and contributor of The Moon Lit Path:  Reflections on the Dark Feminine, (2003) Nicolas Hays; contributor to Betwixt and Between:  Patterns of Masculine and Feminine Initiation,   “Fathers, Sons, and the Brotherhood”, (1987), Open Court.

Since 1984, Fred has been involved ceremonially and personally in the life and culture of the Brule branch of the Lakota Sioux in South Dakota.
