The Divine is Moving from Stable Parochial to Chaotic Universal

Our ideas of an inner and outer divine are transforming our world and our individual lives politically, culturally, and ecologically. Jung spoke of this in his writings about Spirituality and the Individual.

We are in a “Copernican Moment”. We used to imagine the universe rotating around the earth. Now we are beginning to realize that the earth is no longer the center of the universe. And the idea of the United States being a Super Power has changed trajectories. Today there are many Super Powers. The 20th century experienced great turmoil with WW I, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East wars. At the turn of the 21st century with 9/11 we experienced new and very personal turmoil that has touched our soil and our souls, changing our lives dramatically forever. The question is, how might we deal with this chaotic universal?

In this course, we will explore how C. G. Jung’s insights can help us understand the movement of the divine from stable parochial to chaotic universal, and how to apply Jung’s insights in our modern era recognizing our cultural chaos as a calling to something bigger.

Speakers
Thomas Lavin, PhD is a Zurich trained Jungian analyst and licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Wilmette, Illinois. He completed his training in both clinical psychology and theology at the University of Innsbruck in Austria and is a founding member of the C. G. Jung Institute in Chicago. Tom’s area of expertise is religion and spirituality in the clinical context.

Mary Ellen O’Hare-Lavin, PhD has her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is a Jungian psychotherapist, an educator, and a writer. She has lectured nationally and in Ireland on addiction, women’s spirituality, alchemy, The Red Book, and Jung’s concept of typology.
