Ecclesiogenic Neurosis: The Dark Side of Organized Religion

The Jungian attitude, as we understand it, is really about living a meaningful life that leads towards wholeness and healing.  To lead that life we need to observe our compensatory life by being aware of our consciousness and our unconsciousness.

We are not going to talk about neurosis as a totally negative thing.  Jung does not see neurosis as a completely negative thing.  After talking about the opposites which are at the center of Jungian psychology we will discuss how organized religion can foster and encourage a neurosis; how organized religion can tend to bottle someone into an ego centric state; how organized religion can free us from our neurosis or make them even worse; and finally we will try to understand how organized religion can help us or hurt us grow as persons.

We will talk about psychic energy especially Jung’s theory about the types of psychic energies.  Jung’s theories about how we develop and use our energy flow are one of the most important discoveries in his empowering psychology.
