Jung Institute of Chicago,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Institute\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/support-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2<sup>nd<\/sup> Annual Spring Fundraising Drive<\/a> is here and I am inviting you to join with others in financially supporting the Institute.\u00a0 Your donation will help ensure that our educational mission of training future analysts and educating psychology professionals and the general public continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019d like to share a personal story about why what the Institute does matters. \u00a0\u00a0While attending psychological gatherings over the years, I have invariably heard in response to my saying that I am a Jungian psychoanalyst, \u201cReally, does <em>anyone do that<\/em> anymore?\u201d  Imagine my surprise.\u00a0 Yes, I do, the analyst-members of the Chicago Society of Jungian Analysts do, and Jungian analysts worldwide do.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This anecdote highlights the misperception that exists within the psychological field in this country about analytical psychology.&nbsp; Your donation in support of our educational mission is tangible proof that the symbolic-depth approach of analytical psychology is relevant and is valued in today\u2019s world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analytical psychology was birthed out of the cataclysm of the Great War as Carl Jung sought to understand the promptings of psyche and make meaning of how such carnage and inhumanity could happen in the modern age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"524\" src=\"https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large.jpg 980w, https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large-250x134.jpg 250w, https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large-510x273.jpg 510w, https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large-768x411.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large-600x321.jpg 600w, https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/SpringDrive2022Large-64x34.jpg 64w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jung embarked on a journey within himself and the discoveries he made about psyche and psychic processes took him on outer world travels to gather the myths and symbol systems of other cultures.&nbsp; These collective materials helped give shape to his psychology of the unconscious, one rooted in an archetypal collective unconscious. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light,\u201d <\/em>Jung writes, \u201c<em>but by making the darkness conscious\u2026a disagreeable and unpopular process.\u201d&nbsp; <\/em>Addressing the darkness of the outer world requires that we each do our own inner shadow work so that our darkness is not projected onto others.
