Lionel Corbett and Cathy Rives compare and contrast Jung&#8217;s theory of the Self, as well as general aspects of Jungian psychology, with Kohut\u2019s self psychology, which is rapidly becoming a mainstream alternative to both classical psychoanalytic drive theory and ego psychology. They also utilize case studies, as well as fairytale and myth analysis, to help illustrate these theories. It was recorded in 1989.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/store\/index.php?route=product\/manufacturer\/info&amp;manufacturer_id=14&amp;tracking=5cec2d644c89f\"><strong>Lionel Corbett, MD<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is a professor of depth psychology at Paci\ufb01ca Graduate Institute. His primary interests are: the religious function of the psyche, especially the way in which personal religious experience is relevant to individual psychology; the development of psychotherapy as a spiritual practice; and the interface of Jungian psychology and contemporary psychoanalytic thought. He is the author of numerous professional papers and four books:\u00a0<i><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2fCGxnb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Psyche and the Sacred: Spirituality Beyond Religion<\/a><\/i>;\u00a0<i><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2x6wC4G\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Religious Function of the Psyche<\/a><\/i>;\u00a0<i><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2x6vJsL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Sacred Cauldron: Psychotherapy as a spiritual practice<\/a><\/i>, and most recently\u00a0<i><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2x84NJ4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Soul in Anguish: Psychotherapeutic approaches to suffering<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jungchicago.org\/store\/index.php?route=product\/manufacturer\/info&amp;manufacturer_id=52&amp;tracking=5cec2d644c89f\">Cathy Rives, MD<\/a><\/strong> is a psychiatrist, Jungian Analyst, and Chair of the Clinical Psychology Program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is particularly interested in Jungian developmental theory, a way of working analytically that integrates Jungian theory, Object Relations, and Self Psychology.
