Toward Something Larger and Greater: The Initiations of Love<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whether met or rejected, engaged or disallowed, returned or unrequited, love is never a bore. In its separations and reunions, presence and absence, fullness and deprivation, love is always an initiation into something larger and greater, beyond the given and familiar self. Both in its miseries and exaltations, love leads and detours us across settled boundaries. The love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, a mythic tale of love as initiation and transformation, provides a background for this, the closing presentation of the Fires in the Heart<\/span> conference.<\/p>\n
