Mapping the Imaginal Realm:\u00a0 The Transformative Process in Therapeutic Work<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jung called the imagination \u201cthe mother of all possibilities.\u201d The capacity to imagine sets humans apart from the rest of creation, and provides us with an ability to heal what has been wounded and to create what has never been before. But the gift is not without danger. After imagination follows choice, the choice to live what we have imagined or to forgo the fate it carries. The imagination can paradoxically lead to healing and creativity or dead ends and destruction. This lecture is part of the symposium From Fantasy to Fate<\/a><\/strong>, which aims to confront the participant with the puzzles and enigmas of the imagination as well as with the challenge to act that imagination poses.<\/p>\n

Kenneth James, PhD<\/strong> is director of Student Services at the Laboratory School, University of Chicago. His areas of expertise include dream work and psychoanalysis, archetypal dimensions of analytic practice, divination and synchronicity, hypnosis as a therapeutic medium, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
