Barrett, Mary Jo

Mary Jo Barret, MSW, CCFH Associate Faculty member, is director of the Center for Contextual Change, a clinic specializing in a component phase model working with individuals, families, and groups. She teaches at the University of Chicago and the Family Institute of Northwestern University. She co-authored Treating Complex Trauma: A Relational Blueprint for Collaboration and Change.

Compaan, Arlo

Arlo Compaan, PhD isa training psychoanalyst and a licensed clinical psychologist.  He was initially trained in pastoral psychology, which qualified him for the psychology license.  He is certified as a fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and is a member of the American Psychological Association.  He was trained and certified as a clinical member and an approved supervisor in marriage and family systems theory by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.  Most recently he was certified as a Diplomate Psychoanalyst in Analytical Psychology by the International Association of Analytical Psychology. He is currently the Director of Training for the Chicago Jung Institute’s Analytical Training Program and serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute.  He has been a co-director of the Jungian Psychotherapy Program.  He has workd as a psychotherapist for 35 years.  During that time he taught undergraduate psychology for 5 years and many graduate courses in psychotherapy field at different graduate institutions in the Chicago area. He served as an executive director of a non-for-profit counseling agency for 9 years and co-directed another couseling agency for 20 years. Friedman, Barbara

Barbara Friedman, PhD is a Jungian analyst and licensed clinical psychologist. She is also a certified addictions counselor and yoga instructor. Her studies have included many years of Buddhist practice as well as other Eastern meditative traditions. She completed five years of training at the Gestalt Institute of Greater Cleveland in individual, group and intimate systems work. Barbara is the author of Partners in Healing: Redistributing the Power in the Counselor Client Relationship. Her community service includes The Cuyahoga County Drug Abuse services Board and The C. G.  Jung Educational Center of Cleveland, where she was a founding member. After years of service in addictions and mental health agencies, Barbara moved into private practice. She sees individuals and small groups in Chicago, Illinois. She defines her mission as advocating change in the power dynamic, between people and within the psyche, so that each of us can live out our truest and fullest nature. Kalsched, Donald

Donald Kalsched, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Jungian Psychoanalyst in private practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is a senior training analyst with the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts where he teaches and supervises. His 1996 book The Inner World of Trauma: Archetypal Defenses of the Personal Spirit has found a wide readership in both psychoanalytic and Jungian circles and has been translated into many languages. Dr. Kalsched teaches and lectures nationally and internationally, pursuing his inter-disciplinary interest in early trauma and dissociation theory and its mytho-poetic manifestations in the mythic and religious iconography of many cultures.
