Healing Our Testosteronic Driven Society
This program examines a growing theme in entertainment that deals typically with arrogant and driven male figures like the Bill Murray weatherman in “Groundhog Day,” the Michael Douglas protagonist in “The Game,” the Nicholas Cage businessman in “The Family Man” and the collective mechanized males in “The Matrix.” John Giannini reflects on these movies within the larger societal context that produces this theme and our masculine testosterone-driven culture this has resulted in an Enron-type tragedy on on one hand and a fundamentalist bent on the other. What are the healing dynamics that emerge in these movies and how do they resonate with our own stories and dreams? Giannini examines these movie narratives as well as others suggested by course participants.
