Matthews Spitzmueller, PhD, LCSW earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. At the University of Chicago, he also received a master’s degree in social work with a clinical concentration and a master’s degree in the history of religions. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in psychology from Carleton College. His research examines direct service provision to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. He explores the strategies community mental health workers adopt as they negotiate the changing conditions of their work under Medicaid reform.
